Die Raad van Trustees van die Stigting het in Desember 2003 tydens 'n algemene  vergadering besluit om een maal per jaar aansoeke te oorweeg vir  'n prestasietoekenning/prys van 'n bedrag tot aan R50 000 wat sal word toegeken aan verdienstelike persone of instellings vir prestasie in 'n projek in enige vertakking van die wetenskappe en / of kultuur wat binne die doelstellings van die Stigting val.

Aansoeke met volle besonderhede oor die voorgestelde projek word ingewag, verkieslik van persone/ instansies wat reeds op die genoemde terrein presteer het. Persone/ instansies kan ook vir die toekenning genomineer word.

Op 28 Februarie 2008 is die Van Ewijck Stigting se Prestasietoekenning vir 2007 uitgereik aan die TEPC-projekspan. Ingevolge die Transcription of Estate Papers of the Cape of Good Hope Project is oorspronkelike dokumente in die Kaapse Argiefbewaarplek oor die afgelope vier jaar getranskribeer en toeganklik gemaak. Hieronder tel boedelinventarisse, vendusierolle, "bandietenrollen", monsterrolle en ander geskrifte uit die 17e tot vroeg 19e eeu. Die prijsgeld van R50,000 sal nou gebruik word om soortgelyke materiaal wat hier ontbreek vanuit die Nationaal Archief in Den Haag aan te vul. Al die getranskribeerde reekse asook vebandhoudende inleidings, indekse, databasisse en navorsingsartikels verskyn op TEPC se 2008-CD.

 

Die Nederlandse Biblioteek wat gehuisves is in die Huis der Nederlande in Pinelands (Kaapstad) was vir die jaar 2006 die ontvanger van die spesiale Prestasietoekenning van R50 000 vir sy werk in verband met die in stand houding en voortbestaan van die biblioteek onder baie moeilike omstandighede. Die  biblioteek bestaan sedert 1913. In 2006 noop verminderde geldelike skenkings uit Nederland lede om die "Vriende van die Nederlandse Bibliotheek" te stig om die biblioteek te bestuur en te bedryf. Sedert Januarie 2007 is almal wat daar werk onbetaalde vrywilligers. Vir meer besonderhede kyk op www.nedbib.za.net.

 

Die Van Riebeeck-vereniging vir die Publikasie van Suid-Afrikaanse Historiese Dokumente (Kaapstad) is die wenner van die 2005 se Prestasietoekenning  vir werk op die terrein van die kulturele en historiese verbintenisse tussen  Nederland en Suid-Afrika.  Die toekenning beloop R50 000. Die Van Riebeeck Vereniging kry dit vir sy lang geskiedenis van uitmuntende publikasies oor die Kaap onder Nederlandse bewind. Volgens die voorsitter, prof. Howard Phillips, beloop dit meer as  30 boeke met oorspronklike dokumente en reisverslae uit hierdie periode. Die vereniging se jongste publikasie,  The Trials of Slavery: Court Records of Slave Trials in the 18th Century Cape,  word tans voorberei vir publikasie.

 

Die wenner in 2004  was Stellenbosch se Libertas-koor wat R50 000 toegeken was vir sy uitmuntende vertonings in die buiteland

 

Aansoeke vir die prys moet elke jaar voor 15 November  gerig word aan Die Sekretaris, Posbus 1658, Kaapstad, 8000.

 


 

 
 

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation decided at the annual general meeting held in December 2003 to consider once a year  a special achievement award/ prize amounting to up to R50 000 which will be awarded to deserving persons or institutions for meritorious projects  in any branch of science and / or culture falling within the general objects of the Foundation.

We look for applications with full particulars about the proposed project, preferably by persons/ institutions who already achieved in the field for which application is made. Persons/ institutions can also be nominated for the award.

 

On 28 February 2008 the Van Ewijck Foundation's Special Achievement Award for 2007 was given to the TEPC-project team. In pursuance of the Transcription of Estate Papers of the Cape of Good Hope Project, original documents were, during the past four years, transcribed and made available in the Cape Archives. Amongst  others there are estate inventories, auction rolls, "bandietenrollen", muster-rolls and other documentation from the 17th to early 19th century. The award of R50.000 will now be utilised to supplement similar material which is lacking here, from the National Archives in The Hague. All the transcribed series as well as related introductions, indexes, databases and research artivles appear on TEPC's 2008-CD

 

The Dutch Library which is housed in the "Huis der Nederlande" in Pinelands (Cape Town) was, for the year 2006 the recipient of the Special Achievement Award of R50 000 for work related to the continuation of its activities under very difficult circumstances. The library was started in 1913. In 2006 members were compelled, due to reduced financial support from Holland,  to establish  a "Friends of the Dutch Library" to manage and run  the library. The Van Riebeeck Society  for the Publication of South African Historical Documents (Cape Town) is the winner of the 2005 Special Award  for  work in connection with the cultural and historical connections between the Netherlands and South Africa. The award amounts to R50 000.  The Van Riebeeck Society received this award in recognition of its long history in producing excellent publications about the Cape under Dutch administration. According to the Chairman, prof. Howard Phillips this consists of more than 30 books with original documents and travel accounts from this period. The Society's latest publication, The Trials of Slavery: Court records of Slave Trials in the 18th Century Cape,  is now  in preparation for publication.  

 

The 2004 winner was the Stellenbosch Libertas Choir which was awarded R50 000 for its excellent performances overseas.

 

Applications for this prize should be submitted before 15 November annually and be addressed to The Secretary, P O Box 1658, Cape Town 8000.
